An exciting opportunity for Black youth ages 8–14 to explore storytelling, music, dance, and performance in a culturally affirming space.
At Afro Van Connect Society, we believe representation matters, especially when it comes to creating opportunities for young people to discover their creativity, build confidence, and see themselves reflected in the arts.
We're excited to share Black Voices in Musical Theatre Workshop 2026, a free community initiative organized by Queen! that invites Black youth to explore the world of musical theatre through creativity, cultural expression, and connection.
Creating Space for the Next Generation of Black Artists
For many Black youth, opportunities to participate in arts programming that reflects their identities and lived experiences can be limited.
Black Voices in Musical Theatre aims to help address this gap by providing a welcoming environment where young people can explore their artistic potential while connecting with Black artists, educators, and peers.
Through engaging activities in storytelling, dance, music, and performance, participants will have the opportunity to express themselves, build community, and experience the joy of creative exploration.
What to Expect
These workshops are designed to be fun, engaging, and culturally affirming.
Participants can look forward to:
- Creative Expression: Explore storytelling, music, dance, and theatrical performance.
- Black Representation: Learn alongside Black artists and educators who bring their experiences and perspectives into the creative process.
- Community Connection: Build friendships and connect with other Black youth in a supportive environment.
- Confidence and Belonging: Discover new ways to express themselves and celebrate their identities.
- Accessible Programming: Participate in free workshops, with a meal included.
Whether your child already loves performing or is simply curious about exploring something new, this is an opportunity to experience musical theatre in a space that celebrates Black creativity and culture.

Why Initiatives Like This Matter
Black cultural spaces are essential to nurturing the next generation of artists, storytellers, and creative leaders.
When young people see themselves represented in the arts, it can open doors to new possibilities, strengthen cultural identity, and create a deeper sense of belonging.
At Afro Van Connect, our commitment to building and sustaining Black spaces extends beyond physical infrastructure. It includes supporting opportunities where Black children and youth can learn, create, connect, and imagine their futures without limitations.
Initiatives like Black Voices in Musical Theatre remind us that investing in Black creativity is also an investment in community well-being, cultural preservation, and future generations.
