What is Emancipation Day?
Emancipation Day commemorates the abolition of slavery across the British Empire on August 1, 1834. It is a day to honour the generations who fought for freedom, acknowledge the ongoing pursuit of equity and justice, and celebrate the creativity, resilience, and excellence of African-descendant communities.
For Afro Van Connect, Emancipation Day is both a celebration and a call to continue building stronger, more connected communities through culture, education, entrepreneurship, and collaboration.
