Our Health. Our Voices. Our Future.
At Afro Van Connect Society, we believe that strong Black communities are built through access to resources, meaningful representation, and opportunities to shape the institutions that serve us.
We're pleased to support Afiya Care Collective, a Black-led nonprofit dedicated to improving healthcare for Black, African, and Caribbean communities across Metro Vancouver.
Afiya Care Collective is currently conducting a Black Health Survey to better understand community members' experiences accessing healthcare. The information gathered will help inform the development of British Columbia's first Black Health Centre.
Why Your Voice Matters
Access to culturally responsive healthcare is an essential part of building healthy, thriving communities.
For Black communities, this means creating healthcare environments where our histories, cultures, experiences, and unique needs are recognized and respected.
The Black Health Survey offers an opportunity for community members to share their experiences and contribute to conversations about how healthcare can better serve Black populations across British Columbia.
By participating, you can help inform the development of healthcare services that reflect the needs and priorities of our communities.
Take the Black Health Survey
Afiya Care Collective is inviting community members aged 16 and older to participate.
Participants will also have an opportunity to enter a raffle for a gift card prize.
We encourage our community members, partners, and supporters to participate and share the survey with their networks.
Building Black Spaces That Support Community Well-Being
Through Afro Van Connect's Black Spaces Initiative, we advocate for the creation, protection, and sustainability of spaces where Black communities can connect, create, learn, and thrive.
We recognize that Black spaces extend beyond physical gathering places. They include the community-led institutions, resources, and systems that support our collective well-being.
The development of a Black Health Centre represents an important opportunity to advance this vision by strengthening Black-led infrastructure and creating new pathways toward equitable healthcare.
Black health is community wealth, and our voices are essential to shaping healthier futures.
