Hogan’s Alley Resurgence 2026 A Celebration of Black Culture, Community & Legacy Saturday, September 26, 2026 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM People’s Park | 722 Gore Avenue, Vancouver, BC Free Community Event Afro Van Connect is excited to share Hogan’s Alley Resurgence 2026, a powerful Black-led celebration bringing together music, art, food, history, culture, and community in the historic heart of Hogan’s Alley. Presented by Hogan’s Alley Society, this free community gathering takes place on Saturday, September 26 at People’s Park on the Hogan’s Alley Block. Hogan’s Alley Resurgence is more than a festival. It is an opportunity to reclaim space, celebrate Black presence in Vancouver, honour the generations who built community here, and collectively imagine the future of Hogan’s Alley. Honouring the Past. Celebrating the Present. Building the Future. Hogan’s Alley holds an essential place in Vancouver’s Black history. For generations, the neighbourhood was a gathering place for Black families, entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, community leaders, restaurants, and cultural life. While displacement and urban redevelopment dramatically changed the neighbourhood, the community’s history, relationships, creativity, and determination have endured. Hogan’s Alley Resurgence brings that legacy into the present. Artists, vendors, elders, youth, families, organizers, and community members will come together to transform People’s Park into a living space for celebration, connection, storytelling, and Black joy. The gathering also comes at an important moment as new housing and cultural infrastructure are envisioned for the Hogan’s Alley Block. It is an opportunity not only to remember what was here, but to participate in imagining what comes next. Music, Culture & Community The celebration will feature live performances, local artists, community vendors, food, and opportunities to connect with people from across Vancouver’s Black communities and beyond. Why Afro Van Connect Is Sharing This Gathering At Afro Van Connect, much of our work is rooted in a simple but important idea: Black communities need spaces where we can gather, create, organize, remember, celebrate, and imagine our futures together. Hogan’s Alley represents both the consequences of losing those spaces and the possibilities that emerge when communities organize to reclaim them. That connection is deeply aligned with our own work through the Black Spaces Initiative and our ongoing commitment to cultural preservation, community well-being, creative and economic empowerment, and the creation and protection of Black cultural spaces. Events like Hogan’s Alley Resurgence remind us that Black space isn't only about buildings. It is about belonging. It is about the relationships between people and place. It is about elders passing stories to younger generations. It is about artists having places to create and perform. It is about Black businesses and entrepreneurs being visible. And it is about ensuring that Black communities have a meaningful role in shaping the future of the cities we call home.
