Vancouver International Film Festival 2026: Afro Van Connect × VIFF

🎬 Vancouver International Film Festival 2026 October 1–11, 2026 | Vancouver, BC The Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) returns this fall for its 45th edition, bringing 11 days of cinema, live performances, talks, special events, and opportunities to experience stories from Vancouver and around the world. VIFF’s 2026 program features more than 160 films and 85 shorts alongside VIFF Live performances, VIFF Talks, and other festival programming. Afro Van Connect is excited to celebrate VIFF 2026 and our partnership with the festival as we continue creating opportunities for our community to engage with Black, African, diasporic, and international storytelling on the big screen. A Celebration of Global Cinema Film has the power to bring us into experiences beyond our own while helping us better understand history, culture, identity, community, and one another. From documentaries and international features to Canadian cinema, shorts, live performances, conversations, and special presentations, VIFF creates an opportunity for audiences to experience an extraordinary range of filmmakers and perspectives. This year's festival takes place October 1–11, 2026, with screenings and events happening at venues throughout Vancouver. Afro Van Connect × VIFF As a VIFF community partner, Afro Van Connect Society is proud to help connect our community with the festival and amplify films that speak to African and diasporic histories, cultures, experiences, and perspectives. As part of our partnership, we're highlighting two films in this year's festival: 🎞️ DAO, directed by Alain Gomis, moves between Guinea-Bissau and France through stories of family, mourning, celebration, identity, and cultural memory. Explore DAO at VIFF 🎞️ KIKUYU LAND, directed by Andrew H. Brown and Bea Wangondu, explores colonial land dispossession in Kenya and questions of land, history, memory, justice, and belonging.
